Understanding Lane Trading

Trading is the art of dealing damage to enemies while minimizing damage taken. Good trading leads to lane pressure, which creates advantages for your team.

Trade Windows

Look for these opportunities to trade:

  • Enemy support missed their key ability
  • Enemy ADC is going for a last hit
  • You have level advantage
  • Your cooldowns are up and theirs aren't

Champion-Specific Trading

Enchanters

Poke with abilities from safe range. Don't commit to extended trades where you'll take more damage than you deal.

Tanks

Look for all-ins when you hit key abilities. Short trades favor poke champions, so commit fully or don't trade at all.

Mages

Poke consistently but respect enemy engage. Your damage is high but you're squishy.

Minion Aggro

Auto-attacking enemy champions draws minion aggro. This can cause you to take significant damage early. Attack from brushes or after abilities to minimize minion damage.

Trading Stance

Stand near the enemy ADC's target when they go to last hit. This forces them to choose between taking damage or missing CS.
